It's Derek's 50th birthday; what better way to celebrate than with a party at Broadhill retirement home? Derek decides to sell some of his autographs in order to raise money for the retirement home. But the shop that sells autographed photos isn't overly impressed by Derek's collection - mainly because he can't actually remember who the signatures belong to. An outing to the beach for some of the residents means a blissful afternoon in the sunshine, while Kev leaves his mark at the seaside by writing rude words on crabs with a pen. Retirement Home manager Hannah stays behind to welcome a new resident, Mrs Shaw, played by Laura June Hudson, whose daughter Rebecca, played by Susannah Wise, recognises Hannah from school. Rebecca's comments make Hannah wonder whether her life has really turned out as she intended.

Broadhill retirement home wants to host a cabaret show and Derek forms an entertainment committee to discuss plans for the evening. Kev wants to produce a play of the Duran Duran film script he wrote in '98 with the staff and residents cast as the band. A new community service worker called Deon, played by Doc Brown, joins the home. He's a keen rapper, but the elderly residents aren't exactly his usual audience. On show night Dougie is forced to join the other 'Duran Duran' band members on stage, while Deon makes a welcome appearance with a special heartfelt rap.

In the final episode of the series, Hannah has received a phone call from a man claiming to be Derek's estranged father; an alcoholic who abandoned him when he was very young. Derek and his mother never spoke about him because it upset her too much, and Derek still finds it hard and says he doesn't want to meet him. Meanwhile, a much-loved resident is in decline, which sets in motion a sequence of events culminating in the appearance of an unexpected visitor.
